Today's Democrats.

I consider myself a self styled conservative. I have never belonged to a group, club or political party. Normally I read up on the candidates before the elections and vote for the persons most closely relating to my views. Before 2002, that meant that I voted person not party. Since the 2002 mid-terms, I have voted straight Republican.

I call myself a Republican, but with several caveats: Gay Marriage, could care less what people do in their own bedrooms; George Bush's and the Republican party current spending spree. Those two are the major ones for me, if there were any year the Democrats could really make in-roads to me this is the year. But what do we hear from prominent Democrats: John Murtha, lets cut and run show the world we can not take a bloody nose; Jim Moran, "When I become chairman [of a House appropriations subcommittee], I’m going to earmark the s—t out of it,” Moran buoyantly told a crowd of 450 attending the event; a lot of Democrats talking about impeaching Bush; the 2000 election, you know trying to change election law after the fact, blaming a 7-2 decision on the right wing court( which means 3 liberal judges had to vote for it), when all the court said was count the whole state by hand or not at all.

2000 really started me looking at my politics that much more. Before, I was a soft conservative, fiscal conservative and social liberal. Now I would just say I am a conservative. For almost 50 years the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate and when they lost in 1994 they whined like babies. When they won the Presidency but lost more seats in 1996 they whined again. In 2000, Democrats just lost their minds. Looking at the Demographics of America they should not be surprised they are losing seats. Look at some of the states with the highest population increase, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and a lot of other Southern states. People not only having more children in the South, but people realizing that Penn, NY, Mass, to name a few does not have the jobs they used to have. Mostly because of Unions and taxes. Not sure why they are not having as many children, I read somewhere once that the North East and West kept America's economy running smoothly, maybe, but the South supplies the country with Labor.

Of course, my biggest misunderstanding with Democrats is defense. Really the Constitution only gives few powers to the Federal Government and one of those is National Defense. The cornerstone of my conservative views is one thing, Defense. I served from 1986-1989, my two brothers joined the Navy. One is still in the Navy, the other is in the Navy Reserves and recently got back from the Middle East. We were the demographic that Liberals like to pooh pooh (you know poor), I did not join the Army for a Job, I had a great job with local Coca Cola warehouse, and they were very sad to see me go.

So where am I going with this? Oh yes, today's Democrats. I read John F Kennedy's Inaugural speech, now there was a man I could back as President.
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty,"
part of JFK's speech. Today sadly, the man would probably have a Democrat backed person run against his senate seat. Ala Joe Lieberman, a person I was very seriously considering voting for President.

Of course, he will no longer even be a Senator, mostly because of the Iraq war. What happened to Democrats, the once proud party that believed in the spirit of America. When did they get hi-jacked by these peaceniks and Anti-American people. Does the Democrat party itself believe that America is the root of all the evil in the world. If so, Lenin must be spinning in his grave, for that was the meme he created for America. He wanted the world to think that, and now that the Soviet Union is dead, it is what people think. It must be killing him, now granted I like that we can still cause the man pain, it sucks that people actually buy into that crap.

Any Democrat who stumbles upon this site, want a way to win back some Southerners.

1. Stop being anti-gun, as long as you are, you will get few Southern votes for National Office.

2. Support the war and the troops. They are people who put their lives on the line for you too.

3. Lay off the Gay Marriage support, before you scream homo-phobe read above, I could care less. But everywhere a State Amendment has been presented to the people, that state has voted overwhemlingly against Gay marriage. Take Georgia, I know I voted for Bush and Against the amendment. My wife says she did the same. In Georgia, 55% of the people voted for Bush, over 70% voted for that stupid amendment. Say 5% of Republicans voted against the amendment and I would not be surprised to see 10-15% that means at least 20% of Democrat voters voted for that amendment. Has there been anything in this country that could garner over 70% of the votes? Maybe say cutting all taxes forever.

4 . Do not listen to the hard left, moving that direction will cause your party to possibly split, look at the voting blocks, African Americans, do not like Gays, Unions, do not like environmentalists, environmentalists, do not like anyone, Gays, do not like religious people. Once splintered it will never return to it's power.

5. PC, get the heck away from Political Correctness, labeling some speech as bad is a slippery slope to the Harrison Bergeron world and no one wants that. Labeling thought as criminal is criminal in itself. The left bitches that people calling Terrorists phones overseas are being listening too, but those same people would love to stamp out hateful thoughts and the only way to do that is to pry into one's thoughts. Scary eh.

Anyway, just the first 3 would win them some elections in the south probably. I know, some of you will say those are not progressive ideas. Are they not? Let's look at the Constitution shall we:
About the first point:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed

The second point:

To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years;

To provide and maintain a navy;

To make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces;

To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

About Gay Marriage:

I see nothing to support it.

The fifth point:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Seems to me like if Democrats believed in the Constitution they could make some gains with the South.

Thanks for reading my long winded ramblings.

This is my first post. It will be a kind of mission statement of this blog.

Equality.

As you can tell by the name of this blog, I have a thing against forced equality. Vonnegut wrote the short story "Harrison Bergeron" in 1961.

It's theme is taking forced equality to its eventual resting place. In 2006, the current year, the only forced equality is the remnants of the Civil Rights Equal Opportunity. Which has served its purpose very well. But where do we stop?

If a person works hard and makes too much money we tax them more, that right? I do not think so, sure some people may think those people are lucky, but mostly they just did a damn good job and got their just desserts. But lets say we start taxing those people harder to even out the equality of people. Then those people will become less productive, why work harder and smarter for the same money as the person who surfs the internet all day. And where do you stop this equality, is it far that George Clooney and Brad Pitt are trimmer and more fit than I? No, so lets force them to wear masks and a suit of ball bearings( this is a theme of Harrison Bergeron). What about people smarter than you, is that fair? In the short story people had to wear a earpiece that periodically made a loud noise in your ear. Someone writing the story today would probably use a head piece that would interupt your brain waves.

The United States Declaration of Independence states, "that all men are created equal." And I believe in my heart that all people are created equal. No where does the Declaration or the Constitution state that all men are equal. As long as there is free will then people will not be equal. True, once you eliminate free will, or through technology handicap the smarter, stronger, and better looking people you could create a false equality. Of course in Science Fiction there is the perfect commune and equality. "We are the Borg, lower your shield and join our collective". Some people would gladly agree to that for free health care.

Of course, as the old saying goes, "Nothing in life is free".

Someone is probably thinking, heck that white boy probably grew up in a well to do or middle class environment. Not hardly, I remember after my parents got divorced that my brothers and I would eat beans, corn bread and fried potatos weeks on end. Or the times our power or water were cut off. Or hid from the insurance man, back when they would make house calls in small towns. I wanted to go to college and I knew there was no way my parents could afford it, so I joined the U.S. Army. 1986-1989. A truly remarkable experience which I will always be greatful for.

Anyway, this is probably a long post for a first one, but when I get going, katie bar the door.

Remember this, you have every chance to make a better world for you and your family. The world does not owe you that, you owe it to yourself. Say to yourself everyday, "I am the Emperor of my life and I control my own destiny."
